This 3D sonar imagery was taken as part of an offshore rig decommissioning project. In this case, one operator was flown out to the site with the BlueView BV5000 3D Mechanical Scanning Sonar and a laptop. With dive operations running nonstop, the 3D scanning sonar data was collected during diver change out periods without adding any extra time to the project. Leica Cyclone software was used to generate the underwater 3D mosaic images of the oil rig structure. The 3D images were provided to the decommissioning project managers delivering unmatched detailed imagery of the downed structure.
As with any major project, having a detailed understanding of the project site is key to proper planning and scheduling. The BlueView BV5000 Mechanical Scanning Sonar proved to be an invaluable tool in this project by delivering continuous high-resolution 3D imagery of the downed structure at critical stages of the project.
